It all began in 1980 or so… when I met my future husband, he had a 100# tri male out of Gladiator (Ch. Tartanside The Gladiator, ROM) and I fell in love immediately. With Brian and the dog! When we married in 1982, and it was time for our first puppy, we looked up the breeder of his dog, Julie Metz, Argyll Collies, and bought our first male from her. He was a beautiful mahogany sable, also about 100#, and was the perfect collie.
Julie inspired us to join the Indiana Collie Club and want to have a show puppy. She helped us find our foundation bitch from the Two Jays kennel, who became Ch. Two Jays Tribute to Medea, CD, CGC “Chelsea”. Chelsea finished 20th in the Hawkins System in 1987, without much effort. She was a pure delight!
We have been members/officers of the Indiana Collie Club since 1983, serving in several capacities. Currently Brian is President and Show Chairman, and I am past Recording Secretary and newsletter editor. We are also members of Collie Club of America , AWCA, and Collie Health Foundation. I have recently become the Newsletter Editor for CCA.
We also enjoy the thrill of watching our dogs go through the herding instinct testing when the "lightbulb" goes off! We test all of our dogs, with 90% of them passing on the first try! Recently, I began agility training with my smooths, and I'm not sure who enjoys it more!
We have bred several champions, including Ch. Braeton's Spirit of Medea, HC “Bailey” who finished as a 10 month old puppy in 1992, took several specialty breeds, and was 19th in the Hawkins System that year.
We look forward to a bright future with our new additions to Braeton Collies! Please inquire for your next show, obedience, agility, herding prospect, or companion!
